System requirements
HomeDrive requires an Android phone running Android 11 or newer and a Windows PC connected to the same private local network. The HomeDrive Receiver must be running on the Windows PC while the phone backs up, checks backup status, or uses Free Up.
Getting started
- Open the HomeDrive Receiver on your Windows PC.
- Choose a writable Windows backup destination with enough free space.
- Make sure Windows is using a Private network profile and HomeDrive is allowed through the firewall on private networks.
- Choose Pair a phone on Windows and scan the QR code from the HomeDrive Android app.
- Select the media categories and folders you want to protect, then start Back up now.
The first Android Play release supports manual backup only. Choose Back up now whenever you want to back up the selected media. A backup you start can continue in the background; allow notifications to see progress and the stop action. Scheduled backup is not available in this release.
PC not found or connection unavailable
Confirm that the phone and PC are on the same local network, the HomeDrive Receiver is running, and the Windows network profile is Private. Guest Wi-Fi, client-isolated Wi-Fi, VPNs, firewall rules, or moving between different routers or subnets can prevent discovery or communication.
If discovery does not recover, reopen HomeDrive on both devices and use the Windows Receiver's health and firewall checks before pairing again.
Pairing problems
Generate a fresh QR code from the Windows Receiver and scan it promptly from the Android app. Pairing codes are intentionally short-lived. If the phone was previously disconnected or its access was revoked on Windows, pair it again to establish a new credential.
Backup is interrupted or appears stuck
Keep the Windows Receiver running and keep both devices on the same network. HomeDrive is designed to preserve valid partial progress when possible and continue later rather than treating an incomplete transfer as a completed backup.
If a transfer repeatedly fails, check Windows free space, the selected destination, firewall status, Wi-Fi stability, and whether the destination drive is still connected and writable.
Insufficient backup space
HomeDrive checks usable Windows capacity before and during transfers. If the destination does not have enough usable space above the configured reserve, the backup is blocked or stopped safely. Free space on the selected Windows destination or choose a destination with more capacity, then retry.
Backup Status or Free Up reports a verification problem
Backup Status is read-only. It checks the current phone state against the paired Windows receiver and can identify missing, changed, pending, or uncertain backups.
Free Up fails closed. If HomeDrive cannot freshly confirm the expected Windows copy and current phone metadata, the affected phone media is retained. Do not manually delete phone media based only on old backup history. Resolve the reported Windows copy, destination, or connection problem and run Backup Status again.
Default Backup status and Free Up checks use current phone metadata and the recorded Windows copy's existence and size. They do not detect every later same-size change or corruption. For a deeper archive check, use Verify every byte now on Android or Inspect backups on Windows.
Free Up safety
Free Up never runs automatically. HomeDrive first rechecks eligible items, then Android shows its system deletion confirmation. Cancelling that confirmation leaves phone media unchanged. Free Up removes only approved phone media and does not delete the corresponding Windows backup files.
Support bundle
If troubleshooting information is needed, use Export support bundle in HomeDrive. The export is designed to redact or exclude credentials, pairing secrets, network addresses, local paths, media filenames, names, and stable device identifiers. Review the export description before sharing it.
