1. Overview
HomeDrive is a local backup application developed by QortxAI / Ali Abul-Hawa. It transfers selected photos and videos from an Android phone to a Windows PC that you pair with the app.
HomeDrive does not provide cloud media storage, does not require a HomeDrive account, and does not upload your backed-up photos or videos to QortxAI servers. Normal backup communication is between your phone and your paired Windows PC over your local network.
2. Information HomeDrive accesses
To provide backup, verification, and Free Up features, HomeDrive may access or process photos and videos you select for backup; media metadata such as file names, sizes, modification times, folders, and identifiers; cryptographic hashes used to verify files; technical identifiers used to distinguish a paired phone and Windows receiver; local-network information required to discover and contact the paired receiver; backup status and verification records; selected backup-destination information; and application or operating-system information used for diagnostics.
HomeDrive uses this information only to provide its backup, verification, pairing, troubleshooting, and storage-management features. It is not used for advertising profiles or cross-app tracking.
3. Local-network transfers and storage
HomeDrive transfers backup data directly between the Android device and the Windows PC paired by the user. You should use HomeDrive only on a private network that you control or trust.
Backed-up photos and videos are stored as ordinary files in the Windows destination you select. HomeDrive also maintains local state needed to operate safely, including pairing credentials, backup records, verification information, and backup manifests. This information is stored locally on the relevant Android device or Windows PC.
If you independently configure another application, such as a cloud-sync service, to synchronize the HomeDrive backup destination, that separate service may transmit those files according to its own settings and privacy policy. That behavior is outside HomeDrive.
4. Pairing and security
Pairing begins only when you scan a short-lived QR code displayed by the HomeDrive Receiver on Windows. The phone pins the receiver certificate and receives a per-phone credential for authenticated communication.
HomeDrive uses cryptographic hashing and receiver-side verification to confirm transferred file length and content before a backup is recorded as verified. Pairing credentials and security-sensitive values remain local and are excluded from portable settings exports and redacted support bundles.
5. Backup status, verification, and Free Up
Backups start only when you choose Back up now. A user-started backup can continue in the background, with a progress notification and stop action when notification permission is granted. Scheduled backup is not available in this Android release.
Backup and deletion are separate actions. In Backup status, Quick check checks current phone file details and asks the authenticated Windows receiver whether previously verified backup copies still exist at the expected size, without reading file contents.
If you choose Thorough check, HomeDrive reads the selected phone files and corresponding stored Windows copies to confirm that their contents match. Confirmed matches are saved locally as backed up in small batches, including existing copies found after reconnecting or resetting the app, and the main screen updates its backup counts. Stopping or an interruption keeps matches already saved; unfinished checks do not confirm an item. Neither check changes phone media or Windows backup files. Free Up independently repeats its safety checks before deletion review.
Free Up never runs automatically. When you start it, HomeDrive rechecks the relevant phone metadata and asks the paired receiver whether previously verified Windows copies still exist at the expected size on the expected destination. Only matching items can proceed to review and Android's system deletion confirmation. Free Up does not routinely re-read file content; use Thorough check to detect changes or corruption that leave a Windows copy the same size.
Free Up removes only phone media that you approve through Android. It does not delete the corresponding Windows backup files.
6. Diagnostics and support bundles
HomeDrive keeps bounded local diagnostic logs for troubleshooting. These can include app and operating-system versions, operational states, recovery events, error categories, and transfer-stage timings.
HomeDrive does not automatically send diagnostic logs to QortxAI. A support bundle is created only when you explicitly choose to export one. Exported support bundles are designed to exclude or redact credentials, pairing secrets, certificate secrets, local paths, network addresses, names, media filenames, stable device identifiers, and other sensitive identifiers. You decide whether and how the exported file is shared.
7. Google QR scanner and third parties
HomeDrive does not include advertising SDKs or an online HomeDrive account system and does not sell personal information. Android pairing uses Google code scanner through Google Play services, which has its own technical diagnostics and usage analytics.
Google states that scanner images are processed on the device and that it does not store those images or scan results. The scanner SDK may send device and app information, identifiers, performance metrics, configuration details, and scanner events to Google for diagnostics and usage analytics over HTTPS. HomeDrive enables automatic zoom, which adds scanning-session identifiers and zoom-related diagnostic events. These transmissions are separate from HomeDrive's photo and video transfers to the paired PC.
See Google code scanner documentation, Google SDK data disclosure, and Google's privacy policy. HomeDrive does not send backed-up photos or videos to advertisers or data brokers.
8. Your choices and data retention
You control which supported media categories and folders are selected for backup, when a manual backup is started, which Windows destination stores your backups, whether verification checks are run, whether Free Up is started, whether Android confirms deletion, whether a support bundle is exported, and whether a paired phone remains authorized.
Windows backup files remain in the destination you selected until you move or delete them yourself. Disconnecting a phone does not automatically delete its Windows backup files. Local backup records and related app state may remain while needed to maintain the backup relationship or until you remove the relevant application data.
9. Children's privacy
HomeDrive is a general-purpose backup utility and is not specifically directed toward children. It does not operate an online service designed to collect children's personal information.
10. Changes and contact
This policy may be updated when HomeDrive's features, data practices, or legal requirements change. The revised date will be shown on this page.
